Bond 50: Bond Girl (Part I)



A Bond girl is a character or the actress portraying a love interest or sex object of James Bond in a film. Generally, Bond girls are victims rescued by Bond, fellow agents or allies, villainesses or members of an enemy organization, or merely eye candy that have no direct interaction with James Bond whatsoever. 
The role of a Bond girl is typically a high-profile part that can give a major boost to the career of unestablished actresses, although there have been a number of Bond girls that were well-established prior to gaining their role. There is no set rule on who a Bond girl will be or what role she will play. She may be ally or enemy, pivotal to the mission or simply eye candy.

Dr. No (1962)

Honey Ryder

Honeychile Rider is a love interest of James Bond after he met her on an island in Jamaica while he was on an urgent mission. Tthe first Bond girl ever, emerges from the sea in a skimpy white bikini singing "Underneath the Mango Tree".

Sylvia Trench

Actress: Eunice Gayson

Sylvia Trench is a love interest of James Bond. She appeared in the first two bond films, Dr. No and From Russia with Love. Bond met her at the casino in the beginning of Dr. No but soon had to leave to Jamaica. The duty called again in the beginning of From Russia With Love, this time in the middle of a romantic picnic.

From Russia with Love (1963)

Tatiana Romanova

A corporal in Soviet Army Intelligence, Tatiana Romanova is assigned to work in the Soviet Embassy in Istanbul as a cipher clerk. She originally intended to be a ballerina, but she had to drop out because she was just one inch too tall to qualify. She has a number of friends and is very popular, though she has had only three lovers.
She likes the look of Bond, and when she sees him face-to-face she comments, "You're even nicer than your photograph", to which 007 replies "You're the most beautiful girl I have ever seen."

Goldfinger (1964)

Pussy Galore is Auric Goldfinger's personal pilot and commander of "Pussy Galore's Flying Circus." Her main objective in the film is to have her flying circus dispense an airborne nerve gas over Fort Knox so that Goldfinger and his communist Chinese allies can break into the U.S. gold bullion depository at Fort Knox, Kentucky and detonate a nuclear weapon.

Jill Masterson

Jill Masterton is employed by Auric Goldfinger to help him win at cards and to be "seen" with him. She can see Goldfinger's opponent’s cards through her high-powered binoculars. She communicates via radio with Goldfinger (who receives the messages through a false hearing aid), telling him what cards his opponent has and what is going on in the game. She is an intelligent and very beautiful woman who Bond thinks is too nice to be involved with Goldfinger.  She is killed by Goldfinger, who orders Oddjob to cover her in gold paint.

Tilly Masterson
Affiliation: Independent, sister of Jill Masterton
Actress: Tania Mallet

Tilly plays a somewhat smaller role in the film version of the book. She is first introduced when James Bond is following Goldfinger when he lands in Geneva. 007 is calmly driving along the road when Tilly speeds around a corner and beeps her horn, wanting to get past. Later she was killed by Oddjob.

Thunderball (1965)

Dominique "Domino" Derval

Domino is a very good open sea diver and is the mistress of Emilio Largo. Bond meets her at the Bahamas while searching the stolen nuclear missiles in Thunderball. After it turns out that Largo is responsible for both stealing the missiles and killing her brother, Domino betrays her guardian to help Bond.

Fiona Volpe
Occupation: Assassin, Member of SPECTRE
Actress: Luciana Paluzzi

Fiona Volpe, played by Luciana Paluzzi, is a secondary villainess in the 1965 James Bond film Thunderball. A deadly assassin in SPECTRE's execution branch, she becomes NATO pilot Major Francois Derval’s mistress in the operation to steal the Vulcan and its precious cargo of two atomic bombs, which SPECTRE plans to use for a blackmail operation.

Patricia Fearing

Actress: Molly Peters

She is a nurse at the Shrublands heath farm and is tasked with specifically looking after James Bond while he is a guest. At one point she sets Bond up with the traction table and leaves him for a few moments, however, during her time away Bond is attacked by Count Lippe who turns up the power on the traction table in an attempt to kill him. He ultimately is saved by Fearing when she returns.

Paula Caplan

Actress: Martine Beswick

Caplan was first seen when Bond visits Nassau to meet Dominique Derval. Caplan was a local Bahamian islander who, along with Pinder, acted as Bond's native contact on the island. She later gets killed by the Fiona Volpe.

You Only Live Twice (1967)

Bond's Japanese guardian angel in You Only Live Twice, Aki saves his life on more than one occasion. She meets an untimely death, though - while in bed with 007 a ninja assassin poisons her.

Kissy Suzuki

A Japanese Ama girl who makes her living by diving for shells, Kissy also works for the secret service. Bond even marries her as a cover for a mission. Kissy's name was never mentioned in the film, although it was in the script.

Helga Brandt
Occupation: Member of SPECTRE
Actress: Karin Dor

Bond first met Brandt when he comes to meet Osato. She and Osato arrive via helicopter. After Bond leaves, Osato orders Brandt to kill him. Later at Kobe dock, Bond is captured and taken to see her. Knowing that she will be killing Bond later, she allows herself to be seduced by him, pretending to defect to his side. While traveling in a Cessna, however, she parachutes out, leaving Bond to try and control the diving plane, narrowly escaping before the plane blows up after an emergency landing. Displeased with her failures, Blofeld feeds her to his school of piranha.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)

Tracy Draco

Tracy Draco is Bond's only true love and one of the strongest Bond girls. Tracy and Bond happily marry in the end of On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Sadly, the new Mrs. Bond is gunned down by Ernst Blofeld's sidekick just minutes after the wedding.

Ruby Bartlett
Actress: Angela Scoular

Bartlett is admitted at Blofeld's Swiss clinic to get her chicken allergy cured, and is one of the girls Blofeld uses to spread his deadly virus. As for Bond, Ruby is a very important source for information surrounding Blofeld's operation.

Diamonds Are Forever (1971)

Tiffany Case

Miss Case is an American diamond smuggler with a forever changing hair color that gets caught in much more than just diamond smuggling. According to her, she was born in a Tiffany's (hence the name) jewelry store while her mother was looking for a wedding ring.
Plenty O'Toole

Actress: Lana Wood

Plenty O'Toole is a very beautiful young woman, and her beauty is enhanced greatly by a low cut purple satin dress that places emphasis on her cleavage, as does a golden and diamond necklace.
