Top 70 Movies to Watch in 2012 (Part 7)

40. Wrath Of The Titans

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Worthington) --the demigod son of Zeus (Neeson)--is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity's lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus' godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans' strength grows stronger as Zeus' remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon's demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

39. Mirror Mirror

The first of two live-action Snow White movies set for release next year is getting a slightly ironic title: "Mirror Mirror."

That's the name Relativity Media has picked for its comedy-action adventure starring Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen, Armie Hammer as the prince and Lily Collins as Snow White. The movie is set for release March 16.

Less than three months later, on June 1, Comcast Corp.'s Universal Pictures is set to release its action flick starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in the title roles of "Snow White and the Huntsman." In Universal's version, Charlize Theron is the Evil Queen.

Although both movies make use of the fairy tale made famous by the Brothers Grimm, the studios are saying they're different enough and spaced far enough apart to both succeed.

Hollywood usually resolves fights over titles through the Motion Picture Association of America's Title Registration Bureau, a voluntary system shared by major studios for registering movie titles and handling objections.

Universal had set "Snow White" in its title much earlier and Relativity didn't succeed in its bid to also use the heroine's name in the title of its movie.

38. American Reunion

Universal Pictures has slated an April 6, 2012 release date for the comedy sequel American Reunion. As of now, American Reunion is the only movie that lays claim to that release date.

The plot will feature the main cast of the 1999 comedy hit American Reunion heading back to Great Falls, Michigan for their high school reunion. Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Eugene Levy, Alyson Hannigan, and Chris Klein are confirmed to return at this time. Last month we reported that original cast members Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Jennifer Coolidge are also in talks to return for American Reunion.

37. Resident Evil: Retribution

Like the zombies that star in it, the Resident Evil movie franchise will not die. Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth entry in the long-running movie series, will begin filming this October for a release in 2012.

While the films have largely splintered from the narrative of the games, the latest film, Afterlife, made some nods to the game series, featuring characters like Wesker and Jill Valentine. The next movie, also directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, will continue that trend.

According to Bloody Disgusting, Milla Jovovich will return as Alice, the headlining star of the films so far. In addition, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and Leon S. Kennedy will all be making appearances in the upcoming film. According to the report, the movie will take Alice from Toronto to Japan.

Sony's Screen Gems studio is aiming for a release on September 14, 2012--just in time for next year's Halloween rush.
