Sinopsis:

Seorang laki-laki yang sedang berlibur dengan istri dan kedua anak mereka di sebuah kabin di hutan dikejutkan dengan kedatangan seorang tamu yang tak mereka undang. Sebelum dia itu menyadari apa yang terjadi, laki-laki itu mendapati dirinya terpisah dari keluarganya. Ketika dia mulai menemukan beberapa jam alarm yang tersebar di hutan itu, dia tiba-tiba harus berpacu dengan waktu jika ingin bertemu dengan keluarganya kembali. Sementara itu, di hutan juga sedang berlibur satu keluarga lain, yang mungkin berkaitan dengan keanehan yang sedang ia alami.

Pertama-tama Big Thanks buat Total Film Indonesia atas tiket undangannya (gara-gara menang ikut kuis TFI) untuk Gala Premiere 'MODUS ANOMALI' di Pondok Indah XXI hari Minggu, 22 April 2012. 

Sekitar 300-an penonton yang beruntung berhasil menyaksikan 'MODUS ANOMALI' untuk pertama kalinya sebelum akan diputar perdana pada Kamis, 26 April 2012 di seluruh Bioskop Indonesia. Antusias penonton sangat tinggi, sampai-sampai dibuka 2 studio untuk penayangan perdananya yang juga dihadiri oleh Joko Anwar, Sheila Timothy dan tentunya para pemainnya, Rio Dewanto, Surya Saputra, Hannah Al-Rasyid, Marsha Timothy dan masih banyak lagi. Tidak hanya sekedar nonton bareng, cast dan crew pun mengadakan sedikit sesi tanya jawab dengan para penonton usai menggelar nonton bareng.

Penonton: Dapat ide gila dari mana bikin film 'MODUS ANOMALI'?

Joko Anwar: Sebenernya idenya udah dari awal 2011 dan syukurnya tahun 2011 bisa mulai produksi dan syuting.

Sheila Timothy: Ya, kami bersyukur juga dapat 'applause' di ajang SXSW di Texas bulan Maret kemarin. Dan juga kita udah nemuin studio yang siap beli hak film kita ini dan siap diputar di Amerika juga (BIG APPLAUSE! :D).

Penonton: Apa sih makna dari 'MODUS ANOMALI' itu dari film ini?

Joko Anwar: MODUS kan artinya dominan atau banyak. Sedang ANOMALI seperti titik didih dari 0-100 derajat yang bisa terjadi secara berulang-ulang. Gitu lho...Hehe...

Penonton: Syutingnya itu di hutan daerah mana?

Sheila Timothy: Di Jawa Barat. Kalo mau ke sana silakan boleh, rumah-rumahnya masih ada kok. Hahaha...

Penonton: Pesan moral apa yang bisa diambil dari film ini?

Joko Anwar: Pesan Moral?? Hmmm... Sayangilah Keluarga Anda (Dan satu studio pun tertawa terbahak-bahak :D)

Well, itu sebagian pertanyaan pada sesi tanya jawab tadi. Sebenarnya banyak tapi tidak bisa ditampilkan karena banyak pertanyaan mengenai jalan cerita film yang mengandung SPOILER! Jadi biar tidak ada bocoran sama sekali dan tentunya bikin penonton semakin penasaran. 

untuk reviewnya, jalan ceritanya bener-bener misterius. Karakteri Joko Anwar yang udah kita kenal lewat film KALA dan PINTU TERLARANG, selalu menampilkan sinopsis yang membingungkan. Hanya sekedar membaca jalan cerita tidak akan membuat penonton langsung tanggap tentang apa film itu. Itulah ciri khas Joko Anwar yang selalu suka membuat penonton penasaran. Dan hasilnya...Memuaskan!

Ya, alur ceritanya naik secara perlahan-lahan dan berkembang dengan penambahan unsur-unsur baru di tengahnya. Bukannya pelit, tapi agar menjaga dan menghargai hak cipta, maka review ini tidak akan memuat sama sekali tentang bocoran jalan cerita dan adegan-adegan yang ada dalam film.

Untuk akting para pemainnya, akting Rio Dewanton benar-benar dominan sebagai tokoh sentral dalam film. Sedang para pemain lain sebagai pemain pendukung yang sangat membantu mengembangkan film ini.

'Twist' dari film ini sangat di luar dugaan. Terkejut? Ya, pasti. Mungkin bagi beberapa orang 'Twist' seperti yang ada film 'MODUS ANOMALI' sudah sering terlihat pada film-film Hollywood, tapi penjabarannya benar-benar baru dan fresh ala Joko Anwar. Good Job & Well Done! :D

Overall, menurut gua pribadi 'MODUS ANOMALI' sangat menghibur walau mungkin bakalan cape nontonnya dengan jalan cerita yang misterius dan pengembangannya yang perlahan-lahan tapi pasti. Semua yang kalian lihat pada film ini akan terjawab secara brilian pada akhir klimaks dari film ini dan cukup memuaskan. 

So, don't forget to watch MODUS ANOMALI on THURSDAY, April 26, 2012 only on Theatres ;)

Colonel Nicholas Joseph "Nick" Fury is a fictional World War II army hero and present-day super-spy in the Marvel Comics universe. Created by artist Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee, Fury first appeared in Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos #1 (May 1963), a World War II combat series that portrayed the cigar-chomping Fury as leader of an elite U.S. Army unit.

Nick Fury appears in several Marvel comic series set in alternate universes, as well as multiple animated films, television shows, and video games based on the comics. The character is portrayed by David Hasselhoff in the 1998 television movie Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and by Samuel L. Jackson in the 2008 film Iron Man, its 2010 sequel Iron Man 2, the 2011 films Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, and the upcoming film The Avengers, the first five of a nine film commitment as the character for the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.[2] The Ultimate Marvel version of the character was based on Jackson's appearance and screen persona, well before he was cast in the role.

Fury initially appeared in the World War II combat series Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos, as the cigar-chomping NCO who led a racially and ethnically integrated elite unit. The series ran 167 issues (May 1963 - Dec. 1981), though only in reprints after issue #120 (July 1974). Following several issues by creators Lee and Kirby, penciller Dick Ayers began his long stint on what would be his signature series; John Severin later joined as inker, forming a long-running, critically acclaimed team. Roy Thomas succeeded Lee as writer, followed by Gary Friedrich, for whom this also became a signature series. Annuals featured the "Howlers" called back to fight in the Korean War and Vietnam War.

Biography:

Nicholas Joseph Fury is the eldest of three children born to Jack Fury in New York City. His father is a United States citizen who enlists in the United Kingdom's Royal Flying Corps during World War I. Jack enlists in 1916 and is stationed in France. He reportedly shoots down Manfred von Richthofen early in his flying career, and is a highly decorated combat aviator by the end of the War in 1918.

Discharged after the War, Jack returns home, marries an unnamed woman, and becomes the father of three children. Nick, probably born in the late 1910s or early 1920s, is followed by Jacob "Jake" Fury (later the supervillain Scorpio who co-founded the Zodiac cartel), and their sister, Dawn.

All three children grow up in the neighborhood known as Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan, New York City, New York. Nick is an amateur boxer through the Police Athletic League where he also learns marksmanship. With his friend Red Hargrove, he eventually leaves the neighborhood to pursue his dreams of adventure, eventually settling on a daring wing walking and parachuting act. Their death-defying stunts while training British Commandos in 1940 catch the attention of Lieutenant Samuel "Happy Sam" Sawyer, then serving with the British Commandos, who enlists them for a special mission in the Netherlands. Nick and Red later join the U.S. Army, with Fury undergoing Basic Training under a Sergeant Bass. Nick and Red are stationed together at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii when the Imperial Japanese Navy ambushes the base on December 7, 1941. Red is among the many killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor, with Fury swearing vengeance against both the Japanese and the Nazis.

Sawyer, now a captain, assigns Fury command of the First Attack Squad, a unit of U.S. Army Rangers, who are awarded the honorary title of Commandos by Winston Churchill after their first missions. They are nicknamed the "Howling Commandos" and stationed at a military base in the United Kingdom to fight specialized missions, primarily but not exclusively in the European Theatre of World War II. During this period, Fury falls in love with a British nurse, Lady Pamela Hawley, who dies in a bombing raid on London before he can propose to her.

Ability:

Nick Fury's aging has been slowed greatly by the Infinity Formula, a serum created by Dr. Berthold Sternberg. Fury was first inoculated with the serum in the 1940s. Fury took the serum annually for many years. Due to its cumulative effect, Fury no longer needs additional doses to prolong his life span. Nick Fury is an athletic man despite his advanced chronological age. Fury's injured left eye, though initially minimally affected by a grenade blast during World War II, has over the decades resulted in a 95% loss of vision in this eye. Despite some comments to the contrary, Fury has not had the eye removed, nor bionically enhanced, and merely covers it with a cosmetic eye-patch to prevent depth perception distortion.

Fury is a seasoned unarmed and armed combat expert, was a heavyweight boxer in the army (during World War II), and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a brown belt in Jiu Jitsu. He has honed his unarmed combat skills sparring with Captain America.

Fury is a combat veteran of three wars, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict, as well as numerous "military adviser" missions and clandestine operations ("a dozen conflicts you've never even heard of"). He is trained as a paratrooper, Ranger, a demolitions expert, vehicle specialist (including aircraft and seagoing vessels), and a Green Beret.

Fury has access to a wide variety of equipment and weaponry designed by S.H.I.E.L.D. technicians. He wears a S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform made of 9-ply Kevlar (able to withstand ballistic impact up to .45 caliber bullets) and a Beta Cloth (type C), a fire-resistant material, which has a kindling temperature of 1,700 °F (930 °C).

Fury uses various types of handguns, including a .15 caliber needle gun, a government issue .45 caliber automatic, a captured German Luger in 9mm Parabellum, a modified semi-automatic Walther PPK in 9 mm Parabellum, and the Ingram MAC-10 machine pistol in .45 caliber.

As the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury has access to the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. highly advanced arsenal of weaponry; various air, land, and sea craft provided by S.H.I.E.L.D.; and numerous S.H.I.E.L.D. paraphernalia, including a radio-link tie and a bulletproof suit. Due to his high-ranking status, even when S.H.I.E.L.D. is directed by Tony Stark, and then Norman Osborn, Fury retains access to several S.H.I.E.L.D. warehouses and paraphernalia that are unknown to anyone else but him.

Review: Silenced (도가니) ~ Don't let the world changes us

Storyline:

Kang In-Ho (Gong Yoo) is a newly appointed teacher at a school for the hearing-impaired in Mujin city. On the way to his new job he becomes involved in a minor car accident and takes his car to a local car repair shop. There his already wrecked car is bumped by a woman named Yoo-Jin (Jung Yu-Mi). Yoo-Jin is an employee at the Mujin Human Rights Center.

On the first day at his new school, In-Ho meets the school's principal and director of administration. They are an identical twins. The director of administration asks for a bribe of 50 million WON ($50,000 USD) to work at their school. In-Ho's financial situation is already in dire circumstances. His daughter who is staying with his mother suffers from asthma. In-Ho's wife has passed away. In-Ho makes a phone call to his mother asking for the money. She delivers the 50 million WON by taking out the deposit money for their home.

While teaching the hearing-impaired students, In-Ho feels something strange about the kid's distant appearances. On his way home, In-Ho notices one of his students Yoo-Ri sitting on the ledge of her dorm room window, which is several stories above ground. He rushes into the dorm building and makes it into Yoo-Ri's room to pull her away from the window. Yoo-Ri then leads In-Ho to a door down the hall and stops. In-Ho goes into the room and sees the superintendent of the dormitory beating a male student named Yeon-Doo. In-Ho is shocked by the brutality and eventually takes Yeon-Doo to the hospital. In-Ho also makes a phone call to Yoo-Jin, the lady from the huma rights center who bumped into him earlier, and asks her to come to the hospital. Soon, In-Ho and Yoo-Jin uncover unfathomable actions committed by the school's faculty against the students. Their work to break the children's silence is only beginning. Meanwhile, In-Ho feels his own pressures to stay silent as his new job already cost his family their home's deposit money and medical bills are piling up for his daughter.

Review:

A film from korea which is based on a true story and adapted from the novel by Ji-Young Kong featuring the story of deaf students who are treated harshly and improperly by the teachers and headmaster from the their school.

The plot was nice and easy to understand. But this is not a movie for children. Because many of the scenes are not good for viewing by children. Acting of the players I personally think were good and very animating, especially for the three kids who acted as the deaf pupil who deserves two thumbs up.

No wonder the story is so touching and so deep will make the audience go moved into it and will make us shed tears.

Messages that can be taken from this movie is that every person in the world is special to God. Therefore we as humans are supposed to look inward be our advantages and disadvantages. Treat fellow human beings can not be equated with animals! This is what I strongly disagree. Treat others as we all are, respect, honor and love are the actions that will unite us all as human beings created by God.

And lastly there is one sentence that really touched me from making this film:

"But in the end, we are not taught to change the world. But we have to make the world doesn't change ourself."

Cannes Festival 2012 Lineup

Cannes announced its complete line-up for the 2012 festival. As previously reported, Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom will open the festival, which runs from May 16-27. Other films in contention for the prestigious Palme d’Or include David Cronenberg’s ultra-violent Cosmopolis, Brad Pitt’s upcoming Killing Them Softly, Lee Daniels’ Precious follow-up The Paperboy, John Hillcoat’s Lawless, Eva Mendes starrer Holy Motors, and films from Abbas Kiarostami, Ken Loach, Michael Haneke, Alain Resnais, and Walter Salles.

About Hulk:

The core of the Hulk, Bruce Banner has been portrayed differently by different writers, but common themes persist. Banner, a genius, is sarcastic and seemingly very self-assured when he first appears in The Incredible Hulk #1, but is also emotionally withdrawn in most fashions.  Banner designed the gamma bomb which caused his affliction, and the ironic twist of his self-inflicted fate has been one of the most persistent common themes.

Throughout the Hulk's published history, writers have continued to frame Bruce Banner in these themes. Under different writers, his fractured personality led to transformations into different versions of the Hulk. These transformations are usually involuntary, and often writers have tied the transformation to emotional triggers, such as rage and fear. As the series has progressed, different writers have adapted the Hulk, changing Hulk's personality to reflect changes in Banner's physiology or psyche. Writers have also refined and changed some aspects of Banner's personality, showing him as emotionally repressed, but capable of deep love for Betty Ross, and for solving problems posed to him. Under the writing of Paul Jenkins, Banner was shown to be a capable fugitive, applying deductive reasoning and observation to figure out the events transpiring around him. On the occasions that Banner has controlled the Hulk's body, he has applied principles of physics to problems and challenges and used deductive reasoning. It was shown after his ability to turn into the Hulk was taken away by the Red Hulk that Banner has been extremely versatile as well as cunning when dealing with the many situations that followed.

During the experimental detonation of a gamma bomb, scientist Bruce Banner rushes to save a teenager who has driven onto the testing field. Pushing the teen, Rick Jones, into a trench, Banner himself is caught in the blast, absorbing massive amounts of radiation. He awakens later in an infirmary, seeming relatively unscathed, but that night transforms into a lumbering grey form that breaks through the wall and escapes. A soldier in the ensuing search party dubs the otherwise unidentified creature a "hulk".

Biography:

The Hulk first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962), written by writer-editor Stan Lee, and penciller and co-plotter Jack Kirby, and inked by Paul Reinman. 

The Hulk has since been depicted in various other media, most notably by Bill Bixby as Dr. David Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk in the live-action television series and five made-for-television movies. Others have been: multiple animated series, through the use of CGI in Hulk (2003) and The Incredible Hulk (2008), and various video games. The Hulk is set to appear in the 2012 film The Avengers.

The Hulk is a fictional character, a superhero in the Marvel Comics Universe. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962).

The Hulk is cast as the emotional and impulsive alter ego of the withdrawn and reserved physicist Dr. Bruce Banner. The Hulk appears shortly after Banner is accidentally exposed to the blast of a test detonation of a gamma bomb he invented. Subsequently, Banner will involuntarily transform into the Hulk, depicted as a giant, raging, humanoid monster, leading to extreme complications in Banner's life. Lee said the Hulk's creation was inspired by a combination of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Frankenstein.

Although the Hulk's coloration has varied throughout the character's publication history, the most consistent shade is green. As the Hulk, Banner is capable of significant feats of strength, the magnitude of which increase in direct proportion to the character's anger. As the character himself puts it, "The madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets!" Strong emotions such as anger, terror and grief are also triggers for forcing Banner's transformation into the Hulk. A common storyline is the pursuit of both Banner and the Hulk by the U.S. armed forces, because of all the destruction that he causes.

Ability:

The Hulk possesses the potential for limitless physical strength depending directly on his emotional state, particularly his anger. This has been reflected in the repeated comment, "The madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets." After probing, the entity Beyonder once claimed that the Hulk's potential strength had "no finite element inside." His durability, regeneration, and endurance also increase in proportion to his temper.

The Hulk's level of strength is normally limited by Banner's subconscious influence. When Hulk allowed Jean Grey to psionically "shut Banner off", he reached a scale of power on which he managed to overpower and destroy the physical form of the villain Onslaught.

The Hulk is resistant to most forms of injury or damage. The extent varies between interpretations, but he has withstood the equivalent of solar temperatures, nuclear explosions, and planet-shattering impacts. Despite his remarkable resiliency, continuous barrages of high-caliber gunfire can hinder his movement to some degree, and this has been consistently portrayed outside the comic books, in both live-action films and animation. He has been shown to have both regenerative and adaptive healing abilities, including growing tissues to allow him to breathe underwater, surviving unprotected in space for extended periods, and when injured, healing from most wounds within seconds.

The Incredible Hulk (2008):

Scientist Bruce Banner desperately hunts for a cure to the gamma radiation that poisoned his cells and unleashes the unbridled force of rage within him: The Hulk. Living in the shadows--cut off from a life he knew and the woman he loves, Betty Ross--Banner struggles to avoid the obsessive pursuit of his nemesis, General Thunderbolt Ross, and the military machinery that seeks to capture him and brutally exploit his power. As all three grapple with the secrets that led to The Hulk's creation, they are confronted with a monstrous new adversary known as The Abomination, whose destructive strength exceeds even The Hulk's own.
